The 207 feet high monumental flag at the National Military Museum near Infantry Road is an awe-inspiring sight and that’s what Naveen Jindal, who leads the Flag Foundation of India which has set up over 45 monumental flags across India intended it to be.

 

“It’s meant to be an awe-inspiring sight, meant to inspire those who see it and to invoke a good feeling about the symbol of our country,” said Naveen Jindal over telephone.

 

The flag, set up on January 23 this year, sits on the tallest pole in Karnataka and it was set up on the tenth anniversary of the judgement by the Supreme Court on January 23, 2004, to a PIL filed by Naveen Jindal which allows the hoisting of the National Flag as a fundamental right of the citizens of the country.

 

 

“The flag is the only thing that connects you and me because we all belong to different states or religions and the flag is the greatest symbol of our nation.”Through these initiatives of the Flag Foundation, Naveen hopes to encourage the display of the Indian flag.

 

And on the occasion of Martyr’s Day, the Flag Foundation of India will be honouring the principles of Father of the Nation at their programme, ‘Sadbhavna Sandhya- Mahatma Ke Path Par’ programme at India Gate lawns. (“It is because of him that we got our flag”, says Naveen).

 

The programme will bring together thousands of people who will pay homage to Mahatma Gandhi by observing a minute’s silence. There will also be a human chain with mass chanting of ‘Raghupati Raghav’ and a performance by singer Sunidhi Chauhan. Similar celebrations will be conducted at the Freedom Park in Bangalore from 5 p.m. onwards with local Congress leaders and civil society leaders followed by live streaming of the events at India Gate.The event concludes the Flag Week Celebration organized by the Foundation on the occasion the tenth anniversary of the judgement.

Around 300 Sikh protesters broke barricades and chanted slogans outside the Congress headquarters in New Delhi on Thursday morning, demanding action against Congress leaders who were involved in the 1984 anti-Sikh riots.
The protests erupted after Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi on Jan. 27, in his very first TV interview, admitted that some Congress leaders might have been involved.

The 1984 riots followed the assassination of then prime minister Indira Gandhi by her Sikh bodyguards, and led to thousands of deaths.

Emaar MGF spreads warmth in the lives of construction workers

The company plans to distribute altogether 11813 blankets in all its sites across India by the end of January, 2014.

In line with its philosophy of welfare for all, Emaar MGF, one of India’s leading real estate developers, has started distributing blankets to site workers at its projects across India. The company has so far distributed 4000 blankets at its sites in Palm Hills, Palm Terrace Select, Emerald Hills and Capital Towers in Gurgaon. 

The company plans to distribute altogether 11813 blankets in all its sites across India by the end of January, 2014. This activity is a part of the company’s CSR campaigns that it conducts throughout the year.   

Emaar MGF, known for its high quality and internationally designed projects, conducts many CSR activities every year.  It recently distributed New Year gifts to children of construction workers at its projects in Gurgaon and Mohali. In the last two years, the company has distributed 25000 blankets to construction workers, enabling them to face the weather in a much better way.  In Oct 2013, Emaar MGF donated more than 20,000 blankets to survivors of the Orissa Floods.

The company is also running a day care centre for children of construction workers at Palm Drive in Gurgaon through Mobile Creches, an organization which provides education, nutrition and health to children through the day.  Emaar MGF is involved in CSR campaigns like donation to various relief funds, donation to NGOs working in the field of disability, education and healthcare.  Last year, in the month of July when the state of Uttarakhand witnessed one of the worst disasters, Emaar MGF contributed Rs 1 crore towards relief and rehabilitation along with Rs 3 Lakhs which employees contributed separately.
